Africa Energy Week (AEW) has become a key event for energy sector players across Africa. This year, the event takes place from November 4 to 8, 2024, in Cape Town, South Africa, under the theme “Investing in African Energy.” It highlights the need for a fair and inclusive energy transition.
With over 600 million people living without electricity and nearly 900 million without clean cooking solutions, Africa remains vulnerable to energy challenges. The conference emphasizes the crucial role that the oil and gas industry can play in eradicating energy poverty across the continent. Among the many participants, the Central Africa Business Energy Forum (CABEF) is present at AEW 2024, strengthening synergies between regional and continental energy initiatives. CABEF, which focuses on investment and development opportunities in the energy sector in Central Africa, leverages this platform to support the specific challenges facing this region.
NJ Ayuk, JD, MBA, Executive Chair of the African Energy Chamber, delivered an inspiring speech at CABEF 2024, calling for increased collaboration among African countries to develop their energy resources. He notably emphasized that, while Africa only accounts for 3% of global CO₂ emissions, it must have the opportunity to harness its resources to improve living conditions for its population. This statement aligns with CABEF’s goals, which aim to promote sustainable energy projects and attract investment to the region.
CABEF’s presence at AEW highlights the importance of joining forces to advance energy projects in Central Africa. By fostering strategic partnerships, both events aim to create an environment conducive to innovation and sustainable development. Industry leaders present expressed their commitment to working together to transform the African energy landscape while respecting climate imperatives.
In sum, Africa Energy Week and the Central Africa Business Energy Forum share a common vision: a sustainable energy future for Africa. Together, they pave the way for essential discussions on the financing of oil and gas projects while placing climate justice and improved living conditions at the core of their concerns. Africa’s energy future will depend on our ability to collaborate and innovate in the face of the challenges ahead.
