The Cameroonian Oil Depots Company (SCDP) has reached a key milestone with the installation of a new Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) storage sphere of 1,000 metric tons at the Bonabéri depot. Initially scheduled for February 2025, this project was delivered four months ahead of schedule, in November 2024, demonstrating SCDP’s commitment to ensuring a secure and continuous supply of petroleum products in Cameroon.
Strengthening Storage Capacities
In response to increasing demand and the risks of supply shortages, SCDP has accelerated the modernization of its infrastructure over the past five years. The addition of this 1,000-ton sphere boosts the company’s LPG storage capacity, a crucial product used by 40% of Cameroonian households for cooking. 100% of the country’s domestic gas passes through the Bonabéri depot, making this installation a strategic advancement for national energy security.
Logistics Optimization and Supply Security
Beyond increasing storage capacity, SCDP has taken steps to modernize and secure its infrastructure, reducing the LPG importation time. Streamlining operations, including limiting vessel rotations and reducing the turnover rate of depots, will improve the flow and reliability of distribution. This optimization is essential for anticipating demand and minimizing logistical tensions.
The actions taken by SCDP to modernize and secure its facilities help reduce unloading times at the quay and streamline operations, ensuring the smooth and reliable distribution of LPG. This optimization is crucial for anticipating potential tensions in the sector.
A Project Led by the PARLYM Group
The PARLYM Group was selected to carry out this project as part of an EPCCS (Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Commissioning, and Start-up) contract, following a restricted international tender. The storage sphere, already operational, stands on the banks of the Wouri River, ready to supply thousands of households across the country.
Major Economic and Social Impact
The increase in storage capacity directly contributes to the stability of domestic gas supply and the reduction of supply disruptions. By facilitating the importation and distribution of LPG, SCDP plays a central role in Cameroon’s energy security. This project is part of a broader strategy to meet the growing needs of the population and support the country’s economic development.
SCDP continues its commitment to modernizing its infrastructure, securing the logistics chain, and ensuring a sustainable distribution of hydrocarbons, reaffirming its position as a strategic pillar for energy in Cameroon.
